The 2021 ILSI Europe online Annual Symposium (IEAS) was a premiere gathering of experts from around the world that met to shed light on the current and future challenges on nutrition, food safety and sustainability. It was a key opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to give answer to these questions, discussing and debating on the themes in the spotlight. About the WC11 Congress
The 11th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences (WC11) is a congress with global outreach. Since the COVID19 virus is still present across the world - the event is presented in an innovative platform that will showcase the advances of IT Technology in a virtual, but realistic congress environment. The overarching theme for designing the scientific program is "3Rs in transition: from development to application". The WC11 Congress is an excellent space to connect with people all over the world to gain knowledge, launch new ideas and brainstorm about the technological advancements supportive for realising non-animal test models of the highest grade and boosting scientific research in the 3Rs. In the past 5 years, the Packaging Materials Task Force has been building a set of tools to demonstrate the safety of food contact materials and articles (FCMAs) regarding non-intentionally added substances (NIAS). The task force has already published two documents on those substances and bioassays for assessing their toxicology. A third document is expected early 2022 and will provide best practices for analytical approaches in identifying and quantifying NIAS.
The Task Force organised a workshop to discuss the potential need for guidance for a harmonised approach to perform risk assessment and risk management of migrants from all FCMs.
During the workshop, invited stakeholders have been invited to share their perspective on:
- Availability and applicability of guidance for intentionally added substances (IAS);
- Availability and applicability of guidance for NIAS;
