Food Packaging: Ensuring the Safety, Quality and Traceability of Foods

Food Additives and Contaminants. 2005;22(10):899-1071

This third symposium followed a first one held in 1996 in Budapest (Food Additives and Contaminants, 1997;14:517-775) and a second one in 2000 in Vienna (Food Additives and Contaminants, 2002;19:Suppl 1). It was organised in collaboration with the Public Health Agency of Barcelona, the Research Institute of Engineering Zaragoza and the European Commission (EC). The objective was to advance the underlying science relating to the safety, quality and traceability of packaged foods, to disseminate results and ongoing research and to stimulate debate to examine the implications for the future. The presentations at the symposium covered: Exposure assessment, Innovations in food packaging, Re-use of packaging materials – Environmental aspects, Packaging migration, Risk perception – Risk communication, Traceability and European Commission-funded projects. These proceedings reflect this broad programme.
