Impact of Dietary and Lifestyle Factors on the Prevalence of Hypertension in Western Populations

European Journal of Public Health. 2004;14(3):235-239

The authors quantified and ranked the contributions of overweight, physical inactivity, alcohol, coffee and other dietary factors to the prevalence of hypertension in Finland, Italy, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and USA. Distributions of blood pressure and risk factors in Western populations were obtained from nation-wide surveys. Blood pressure estimates for every risk factor were obtained by metaregression analysis of randomised trials.
