Current Perspectives on Risk-Benefit Assessment in Food Safety and Nutrition Where Do We Stand

About the event

In a continuously evolving food word, Risk-Benefit Assessment of Foods (RBA) plays a key role in understanding the impact of dietary practices on human health. This discipline integrates the latest scientific advancements in nutrition, toxicology and microbiology to comprehensively assess the adverse and beneficial health effects associated with different food consumed. RBA has emerged in the 2000s and has undergone continuous development with now more than 200 RBA performed word widely.

Our one-hour webinar aims to provide a comprehensive update on Risk-Benefit Assessment of Foods and discuss the current needs and limitations to launch an international survey. We will introduce the ILSI Europe Food Contaminants Task Force and the Risk Benefit Assesment of Foods Expert Group, explain what is RBA and present the latest developments.

Whether you're a researcher, involved in decision making process, working in industry or health-conscious consumer, this webinar will offer insights into the latest developments in food safety and nutrition.

Programme

  • Introduction to the ILSI RBA activity and what are the needs? Neil Buck (General Mills)
  • What is RBA in Food safety and nutrition? Hans Verhagen (Scientific Regulatory Expert, Food Safety & Nutrition Consultancy)
  • An update from 2024: what was done in RBA? Géraldine Boué (ONIRIS)
  • Discussion - Alan Boobis (Imperial College London)
  • Starting a survey: what are the needs and limitations? Taya Huang (Nanyang Technical University)

About the event

The 17th International Scientific Conference on Probiotics, Prebiotics, Gut Microbiota and Health - IPC2024 will be held during the 18th - 20th June 2024 in Prague, Czechia.

The goal of conference is to provide a scientific forum for all stakeholders of probiotics and prebiotics and to enable the interactive exchange of state-of-the-art knowledge. The conference is focused on evidence-based benefits, health claims proven in scientific experiments and clinical trials.

New scientific evidences that support or question the efficiency of already existing or prospective substances and applications will be conferred. In addition novel strains, controversial but scientifically solid ideas, approaches and visions will be presented as well.

Further to its scientific content, IPC2024 is a networking event. It is a unique opportunity to meet all the stakeholders of probiotics and prebiotics.

Participants will meet those who influenced the past, influence the present and most importantly will shape the future of probiotics and prebiotics by means of basic research, clinical trials, regulatory efforts or development of industrial technology. Initiation of cross-boarder co-operations between scientists and institutions will be also facilitated.

ILSI Europe Session

This year, ILSI Europe will participate to the event with a sponsored session titled "Fostering Collaboration and Scientific-Based Consensus to Unlock the Power of the Microbiome":

  • Introduction - Isabelle Guenlickx, ILSI Europe
  • Prebiotics for cognitive resilience - Boushra Dalile, KU Leuven
