Workshop on Application of Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) in Risk Assessment

Objectives
• Familiarise target audience with the scientific basis of TTC, new developments and demonstrate application of TTC in risk assessment of different product types;
• Build expertise to determine in which cases TTC is applicable and where it is not;
• Harmonise acceptance of TTC in risk assessment across different regulatory sectors and agencies (e.g. food additives, food contact materials, pesticides, cosmetics, home care, industrial chemicals, etc).

Background
As the Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) concept is gaining more attention in terms of risk assessment application, there is a need for the alignment and harmonisation on how the concept is used. ILSI Focal Point China, in collaboration with Chinese Society of Toxicology (CSOT), China National Centre for Food Safety and Risk Assessment and the Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) Task Force of ILSI Europe organised this two day workshop to promote innovative research on toxicological transformation in the fields of food, chemical and environment in Asia.

The workshop also set up working groups to discuss practical issues in TTC applications including food packaging materials, flavourings, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, daily cosmetics, and environmental pollution. The workshop was partly in English and in Mandarin. However, the workshop was equipped with simultaneous translation.
