ILSI Europe is launching a new roadmap of activities contributing towards a low carbon emission food system. This roadmap of activities, drawn in collaboration with the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), will fall under the newly created Sustainability Pillar.

Food is the single strongest lever to optimise environmental sustainability on Earth. In Europe, the European Union (EU) is putting in place the new Farm to Fork strategy in order to become the first carbon neutral continent by 2050. In this context, ILSI Europe’s sustainability pillar actions will contribute to this EU strategy and to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 12 and 13, focused on environmental sustainability. The roadmap will, among others, look into methodologies of measuring the carbon footprint of foods, the health impact of consumption of lower carbon footprints diets, and engage with citizens for a comprehensive overview of labelling systems related to carbon footprint.

In the coming months, this roadmap will be refined and is expected to be approved by the end of the year.
