FIT4FOOD2030 Workshop ‘Research and Innovation Showcases in the Food System’

Brussels, Belgium
17/04/2019

Background
Amongst policy, research and industry experts there is strong consensus that the European food system needs to be transformed to ensure the continued food and nutrition security. Research and innovation is expected to significantly contribute to such a transformation. To achieve such an ambitious goal, all relevant stakeholders involved in research and innovation in the food system need to be brought together; however, overarching factors that contribute to the transformative potential of research and innovation initiatives, such as trends, good practices and networks, social movements, educational approaches, technological innovations and potential breakthroughs need to be well understood also.

Objectives
The aim of the workshop was to acquire insights into best practices (showcases) in research and innovation that have the potential to support the transformation of the European food system from different actor group perspectives. Within relevant stakeholder groups, we workshop participants will:

• To align on a common definition of a FIT4FOOD2030 showcase
• To select the best Showcases from a list of cases provided by WP3
• To understand how to get inspired by showcases

Expected Outcome
The outcome of the workshop will be a catalogue of identified research and innovation showcases with clear explanations on why certain best practices were more impactful than others and clearly defined criteria to aid the selection of showcases. The output from the workshop is expected to guide the development of an impact assessment tool that can be utilised by national and international funding bodies to assess successful research and innovation processes.
